BASIC SERVICES

The City has a total of 11 kindergarten schools, 64 primary/elementary schools, 13 secondary schools and 4 tertiary schools. Almost every barangay has at least 1 primary/elementary school, while secondary schools are strategically located in areas with relatively higher population and the tertiary schools are all found in the urban center.

There are 3 private hospitals and 1 public hospital (provincial hospital) in the City.  With 241 combined numbers of beds, this means there is 1 bed available for every 523 population. But this is being compensated by the establishment of health centers in almost every barangay with assigned health workers, midwives, nutrition scholars and trained hilots that provide simple health services to the barangay resident

Presently there are 83 policemen and 22 firemen serving the whole city, which has a total population of 126,086. This means that one policeman is serving at least 1,519 population. This low number of policemen is compensated by the presence of 920 civilian volunteers who assist in keeping peace and order especially in the rural areas.

The Malaybalay City Police Station has recorded a total of 153 crime incidents in year 2001, which is 5.5% higher compared to previous year.

Despite its relatively peaceful environment, the city is not totally free from drug addiction and trafficking. The commonly abused drugs are shabu and marijuana. Most of the apprehended drug users were sons and daughters of prominent persons and even professionals including government employees. Cases of sniffing of rugby among out-of-school-youth are also recorded in the police station.
