Incorporated
on February 13, 1995, Air Philippines Corporation started operations
on Feb. 01m 1996 with B737-200 flights to Subic, Iloilo and Zamboanga
on temporary Operator's permit issued on by the Civil Aeronautics
Board.
On
June 04, 1997, CAB granted the airline a 5 - year Certificate
of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN), the administrative
franchise required to operate fully scheduled domestic services.
On June 05, 1997, APC Legislative Franchise RA 8339 was passed
by both Senate and House of Representatives and became a law on
August 08, 1997.
The
APC franchise is for a period of 25 years and has mandated the
airline to serve not only the primary trunkline routes with aircraft
of smaller capacity. APC has likewise been authorized to serve
international destinations.
Near-term
plans for the consolidation of domestic operations by the deployment
of jet aircraft to primary airports and the development of hubs
through complematation schemes of similar aircraft types or continued
use of turbo-props to serve the Philippine Countryside.
After
the first year loss of about PHP250M, the company achieved profitability
in 1997 carrying over 675,000 passengers. In 1998, there are an
estimated number of over 772, 926 passengers.
And
in 2000, APC carried over 966,831 passengers.
